Look du Jour

The Look of the Day: Victoria Beckam

I am in love with Victoria Beckham’s ensemble – it is the perfect blend of elegance, coolness, business, and streetwear. It is a simple look day look that is fabulous and put-together – fierce and all business, but approachable. The juxtaposition of a tailored blazer and distressed denim in this outfit was executed impeccably.

Let’s start at the top. As always, Victoria Beckham has a pair of oversized sunglasses that frame her face perfectly. Do find shades that fit your face shape; don’t just buy them because they’re Chanel or because your fashion icon has the exact same pair. Sunglasses should complement your cheekbones and nose! Invest in a good pair…shades don’t just block the sun; they give you that nonchalant and “it” look.

A plain, black blazer is a basic that almost every woman should own. Blazers aren’t always equivalent to prep school or the typical businesswoman outfit; a fitted and tailored jacket gives off an air of intellectual stylishness. It looks smart, the silouhette clean and sharp. Yet do not fall into the population of women (a great majority) who believe that blazers naturally go with pencil skirts or pants. Pair them with denim! I usually opt for skinny jeans in a lighter wash in order to show contrast, but Victoria Beckham’s choice of flared denim looks even more fabulous! The strong lines from the blazer are offset by the casualness of jeans, and furthermore contrasted by the splashes of paint. This is one pair of distressed denim that does not look cheap or too Abercrombie-ish; it looks classier. Hidden underneath the legs of her jeans are a pair of great heels (Louboutins would be a valid guess, probably not too far off). I would suggest a pair of peep-toe pumps; the revealing of toe cleavage (that is an actual term I heard…) adds youthfulness to the professional look of the blazer.

Last but not least, the bag. I am in love with the large Chanel bag – the quilted leather, boxiness, and gold chain straps are a signature Coco Chanel look. the bag is a true and timeless classic – I need not say more. It is gorgeous!!

What’s your signature day look for a casual outing?

xoxo.

I love how she shorten the chain on the jumbo classic flap bag. Instead of wearing on the shoulder, now she can hold it on the crook of her arm. I tried it with my Chanel bags and the look is quite savvy.
