Los Angeles, a Love Letter

Has it really been four months since my move to Los Angeles? I’m still (impatiently) awaiting furniture deliveries, but it’s impossible to remain frustrated when the light here is simply magical. Oh, L.A., this new city of mine! These are a few of my favorite things:

• Golden hour
• Blue skies, wispy clouds, and sun-kissed temperatures (even during 40-degree dips)
• Smoothies at every turn, non-dairy milk options in every cafe
• Sweet, chatty strangers (the willingness for conversation—at a safe distance—is something I’m still getting used to)
• Rain, surprisingly; storms feel magical here
• Reading Eve Babitz, which also feels more special now that I’m an official resident in her city
• Erewhon (yes, I said it)
• My proximity to LACMA, even though it’s closed
• A profusion of bird of paradise flowers
• Midday walks around the neighborhood (I’m getting use out of my sneakers, finally)
• Tall palm trees juxtaposed by snow-capped mountains in the distance
• The change of scenery (literally), an ease in pace
