Ludicrously Capacious

Wore this ludicrously capacious bag in search of international September issues. According to astronomy, summer may be over—but climate change says otherwise, and we’re in a perpetual Zara Larsson state of mind, anyway. Seasonal convention would have me in a cardigan and boots, emanating ambery woods or honeyed hay. Weather-wise, however, an open-back dress and sunny gourmands were more befitting. The raffia tote was a logistical choice, and less so a sartorial decision or rebellious statement against autumnal norms. It was the logical option, too: The flat construction is ideal for the safe transport of print goods. Periodicals lay neatly without warping as they would within a wider base of a traditional tote, and the lightweight weave makes the walk home less cumbersome. Is it a bit over the top? Perhaps. Comically large? Possibly, depending on who you ask. (Could be even campier, frankly. Jacquemus is known for proportions of extravagance, after all.)

Only a scent described as “not too sweet” would do in this liminality. Peosym Mithai is sweet, to be clear—just not saccharine for the sake of it, and perhaps not enough compared to American or even European canon. It’s a comforting warmth with a delectable bite: nutty, spiced rose with an unctuous vanilla-patchouli base. Too much and you might find the cashews a bit too oily, too rich. But a light, two-spritz mist and it’ll wear like a lush veil.
