MAC x Hello Kitty Collection

26 January 2009 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

I must admit that I’m childishly excited to see the revealing of the MAC’s Hello Kitty collection, come February (in only a week!). Already it’s much awaited debut has received polar reactions; there are those who hate the idea, thinking it too immature of a collaboration, whereas others, like myself, fans of the thirty-four year old kitten, are ecstatic for its debut. Perhaps not suitable for every girl/woman, considering that the color palettes will, of course, consist mainly of bright pinks, one must keep in mind that MAC wanted to direct the particular cosmetics to a younger fans. Of course, brighter colors do require a bit of courage to display about boldly, so hesitation in buying the collection is understandable. Nonetheless, keep in mind that it is always fun to play around with little pots of fun colors!

dominatrix-meets techno. pink, blue, & black!

Already through photos, Hello Kitty, usually portrayed as sweet, girlish, and innocent, has been mod-ified – in black, white, and pink. A more “grown-up” version of the little white kitten once dressed in overalls and stripes, perhaps? Clad in go-go boots sprawled across patent accessories (clutches, cosmetic bags, and little vanity sets!) and appearing in the form of a black vinyl plush doll, Hello Kitty has evolved quite a bit since her introduction as a simple cartoon character thirty or so years ago. MAC executives are a bit mum on sales projections; but they seem to want to portray Hello Kitty cosmetics as wearable for day (for the girly, pink and shimmer loving ladies), and easily transformable into evening makeup: clubbing worthy dominatrix-meets-techno. Well, that just happens to be my guess, after seeing some photos of ads.

Definitely dominatrix meets techno, after looking at the above photo again. Dressed in black vinyl bustiers and in bright makeup? Yes sir!

From what I’ve been able to see so far, I’m in love with the pigments; the loose, shimmery black shadow is a definite must have for me – smokey eyes are the one makeup look that I’ve actually mastered… and can wear. Imagine the different variations of the ever smoldering smokey eye – black or silver for the evening, and a lavender for the day! The magenta is such a beautiful shade, though I’m not so sure how that would look when it is actually applied on the face.

The nail lacquers. Purrrrfect. And the bottles look adorable! That bright, bubblegum pink shade on the model is simply perfection; it is, obviously, the pink every little girl, at one point, has dreamed of painting her room (though that color in large doses can be blinding). Is that silver I see? I really would love to try it, the shade reminiscent of Chanel’s RTW collection in either 07/08.

hk-for-mac-41

And of course. Last but not least, the lip collection – the very part I am most excited about (since, I must admit, that is the only daily makeup I ever wear). I already love MAC’s lipsticks & lip glasses (simply the best!); my obsession with lippies is fully exemplified by the fact I carry eight or so tubes in my purse (and then there’s the rest sitting on my vanity). The lipsticks, especially the beige and the pink on the right, are simply purrfect. The brighter coral-red is such a beautiful shade too, although it’s color transfer from tube to lips could potentially be too overwhelming. Nonetheless, a fun color to try! And the lipglasses; in purples and pinks galore, imagine flaunting candy-colored lips all day! Yum.

But before it releases, browse & shop at MAC. I seriously do recommend their products (specifically lippies & shadows!) Or just have fun looking at a myriad of colors and pigments. Because that is totally fun, too, darlings!

Delicious. I want!

xoxo,

La C.

P.S.: Twice in a week! Thank you so much, Jaime, for linking me again 🙂 Yet another beautiful collage!!

This is SO adorable. Everytime I clean out my room, I am ruthless about most things but I can’t bear to part with this red patent leather Hello Kitty purse I’ve had since I was 5 years old. She’s iconic. x
