Mykonos, Greece: Travel Guide + Photo Diary

What to do when you’re in Mykonos: Stay at the Apanema Resort, an award-winning boutique hotel that’s  s t u n n i n g  and provides next-level service. The view is incredible, the room itself is a dream, and that infinity hot tub is a godsend after a day of dancing on the beach. Nammos and Kalua are musts if you want some solid beach-side partying and sick music, but keep in mind that unless you have a table or a VIP booth, you’ll be bumping-and-grinding (and not necessarily the good kind) with everyone. Opt for Rakkan if you want a zen experience. Beds are 50 € and drinks start at 14€, but it’s worth it. Especially if you’re hungover or not the party animal type. There’s plenty of restaurants to grab lunch at when you’re by the sea, but Solymar and Kuzina take the cake. Grab a slice at Blu Lounge if you want something quick (but delicious!) served with some high-speed Wi-Fi.

Make friends at night, or go out with a big group of people. Bars, clubs, and lounges are basically elbow-to-elbow in Mykonos, so you’re bound to find a place you like. There’s a few tourist-y places that can drive a girl insane (think fratty basement party vibes with the same people, just on a different continent), so don’t be afraid to move around until you find a place you like. 9 Muses was  my absolute favorite—the DJs were incredible—but Dome was sick too. Pop into 4711 for live Greek music, and grab a basket of fresh fries (or souvlaki for my omnivores) at 8 a.m. before you start your walk home.

Save one day to do the tourist-y things. Explore the main town, do some window shopping, but be sure to stop by E-Naus, a gorgeous boutique that sells handmade jewels, handcrafted marble chessboards, and more. Visit the Windmills of Mykonos and the Church of Panagia Paraportiani. Grab a table by any one of the seaside restaurants for their fresh catch of the day (or a fig salad, if you’re a vegetarian/vegan), but be warned: during high-tide, you will get spritzed.
