Oscar de la Renta Fall 2008

13 August 2008 • Kimberly • 36 Comments

Don’t laugh at me. (Actually, I could care less if you did or not…that’s one weird thing about me: I don’t get embarrassed at all.) Anyway, I always update my iPod with the latest podcasts of runway shows – the full 20 minute or so show. I love watching them, and lately, I decided that since I have a blog about fashion, I should take notes of the trends and what I love just for you =). And yes, I actually did take notes. I am quite proud of them. I actually feel like I’m one of those fashion editors for Vogue or Elle sitting in the front row with Cartier pens and Hermes journals, only, it’s just me, my iPod, and this little pink notebook with glittery designs (I told you I love sparkles!)

Oscar de la Renta’s Fall/Winter 08 show was the first one I decided to watch; he always incorporates all the trends seamlessly into his gorgeous collections. So here is what I took note of:

  • He incorporates all of fall’s color palette trends: purples and shades that reflect the fall foliage (browns, reds, golds). Loveee the colors!
  • Last season was all about luxury, as seen with the massive amounts of exotic furs and skins. ODLR plays with the juxtapostion of luxury and understated fabrics by mixing tailored tweed with fur. This play of fabrics reminds me of what Michael Kors did in his Fall 06 (I think?) Collection. ODLR had a lot of tweed jackets with fur collars or a fur trim at the bottom.
  • He understands women. Low but adorable Mary-Janes & boots with pointed toes!
  • TIGHTS! in brown & black
  • Silouhettes: boxy jacket & full dirndl skirt or high waisted flannel pants.
  • Statement Necklaces! He went for more of an organic looking statement with beads and stones, not so much the huge flashy jewels. This look is easy to recreate: just layer on necklaces of different lengths and voila!
  • Tweed glamified…with metallic embroidery & beads! A bit like classic Chanel.
  • Embellishments & Metallics: there was a lot of it! Metallic gold/silver embroidery, gold/silver leaf motifs, beads. Some seemed like brocade minus the heaviness; beautiful! A lot of floral motifs like fall foliage & embroidery!
  • Dip-dyed skirts and dress with an overlay of black netting was gorgeous!
  • Tops: ruffle front blouses, tops with black lace
  • Cinched Waists! Recreate the look by cinching jackets with a thick belt!
  • Fabrics: tweed, dip-dyed silk, chiffon, velvet, hammered satin, silk crepe.
  • Exotics: fox furs, stingray bag (the Goya is beautiful!!)

Oscar de la Renta: the epitome of womanly elegance, from understated everyday wear to gowns gala-worthy.

xoxo.

Things have changed since I was a younger. Before ipods and podcasts I would sit on style.com and study everything. Then burn all of the looks onto a CD, make a cover for it using all of the images in a tiny grid that would take forever in Paint, and that’s how I kept note of all of the shows.

Your way is a lot easier. haha
