Four Girls in Washington D.C.

19 June 2012 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

A few things happened this weekend. Some monumental (pathetic pun intended), some not.

The biggest news of them all? I joined the ranks of the 21st century tech babes with an iPhone, meaning I now have Instagram. Better late than never, so the saying goes.

I kid. I love Washington D.C., I don’t go enough. The special trip down this past weekend was twofold: one, to be reunited with my best girlfriends, and two, to support one of them as a finalist in the Miss DC Pageant.

I’ll have you know she was beautiful on stage. Confidence is an unstoppable force, my friends.

I could write a thousand or so words on the two and half days. Smiles, laughter, tears, love—you know, the things that come with having three sisters—such amazing things. I could write about the amazing city, how I want to go back for a longer stay for a proper visit. I could write about the museums, the grandeur of the monuments, the groups of giggling touristy boys nervously asking to have a photo taken with us. I could write about the food—The Darlington House, Kramerbooks Afterwords Cafe & Grill, Cafe Tu-O-Tu, Sprinkles (it’s a funny thing how life comes in full circle; it was one of my first few posts back in the day), The Diner—or how I fell in love with every nuance the city had to offer—DuPont Circle, Georgetown, etc. Discussing the pageant would reach epic proportions (I also saw the stylish Aureta Thomallari judge the finalists), the after party at Acacia Bistro was spiced up by the arrival of several Marines. Apparently men in uniform are irresistible. They also don’t smile easily. Unless you know the right thing to say…

But you know how the saying goes: a picture is worth a thousand words.

Michelle Obama is one of my idols, did you know?

Her Inaugural Ball gown – stunning. (At the National Museum of History.)

Beautiful pieces. Not pictured are her Jimmy Choos. I’m not a shoe person, that’s why. (I’m also easily distracted by shiny objects.)

Delicious dinner at Kramer’s. Sauteed kale, beans on baguette, sweet potatoes, risotto, quinoa. Must try the dessert next time.

Amazing salad from Cafe Tu-O-Tu in Georgetown (one of my favorite areas to date). Spinach avocado salad with walnuts, goat cheese, blue cheese drizzled in their special vinaigrette.

Sprinkles Cupcakes in Georgetown. The Georgetown Cupcakes line was too long, that’ll be reserved for the next trip back. Guess what I had! … too late, I’ll tell you. Carrot cupcake. Delush.

Don’t you boys ever smile? (And don’t my friends look beautiful?! If you don’t know which is me – which I can’t blame you for; I’m not one for outfit snapshots – I’m the one in the coral bandage dress. Hi! The irony of it all; I’m wearing color, which I rarely ever do…)

You should totally post outfit posts! I know it’s not your thing but you just sound SO chic and stylish!!

I love these photo diaries you sometimes do. Such eye candy.

Also, you look HOT mama! I’m sure you made the MIU’s smile… also, why didn’t you enter a pageant? I have no doubt you would’ve gotten far, you’re gorgeous and elegant. I bet everyone was asking you why you didn’t go out for it! 😉
