Santorini: City Guide + Photo Diary (Part I)

5 September 2016 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

After two days in Athens (doing typical tourist things), E. and I were off to Santorini: the island I’ve been dreaming of (and dutifully stalking on its Instagram geotag). The five-hours ferry ride—made all the more miserable by the the 5 a.m. wake-up call that preceded a night out until 4:30 a.m.)—was worth it in the end.

Stay at the Ira Hotel. Seriously, I could not recommend a more beautiful resort; our room (the Aphrodite) was spacious and overlooked an incredible view, and the staff was beyond hospitable. Don’t be afraid to order room service: the food is delicious and it’s reasonably priced too. You’re likely taking a long ferry ride to get to Santorini, so I highly recommend relaxing on the first day. Hop in the shower, throw on a bikini, and lay out by the hotel pool until 5pm. Take the bus into Oia and explore the city. There’s a ton of adorable shops and restaurants, but walk to the top of the mountain and grab a table at Red Bicycle, which overlooks the city and makes for the perfect sunset dinner. (Oh, and the food is incredible too. That dessert pictured above was next-level #foodporn.)
