Savoring Summer

A list of things—some sweet, others sweaty, but nothing sour.

How is it August already? There’s a part of me that’s grateful for the start of fall because it relieves some of the pressure of Doing Fun Things™ in summertime, but another that can’t help but mourn its nearing end. I’m not a fan of heat (though I find any temperature below 56° deplorable), don’t know how to dress in hot weather (like most women, it’s a constant battle between loving tiny things and grappling with the reality of the world we live in; the latter tends to win), and prefer my caffeinated drinks hot. Still, I love summer from the comfort of my air-conditioned apartment. Summer is for languid days, easy romances, endless nights. Fall is when reality sets back in.

So, a list to celebrate and remember the best of summer, so far:

  • Freshly washed sheets
  • A fluffy duvet
  • Reading in bed
  • Reading on the floor
  • Frixion Erasable Fineliners, for underlining poignant passages with peace of mind
  • Perfumed packages, piled high
  • White t-shirts
  • Perfect denim
  • First dates
  • Fifth dates
  • Midday showers
  • Body butter
  • Warm skin
  • Sun-kissed
  • Sleeping in
  • Late-night writing
  • Late-night phone calls
  • Nekohama x Oishii strawberry matcha chocolate
  • Sunglasses, on until 8pm
  • Afternoon naps
  • Lip gloss
  • The sheen of sunscreen
  • OOO replies
  • Kitten heels and little shoulder bags
  • Sex and the City marathons
  • Halter-neck dresses
  • Halter-neck anything
  • Friday nights out
  • Saturday nights in
  • Sundays, always—the slower and sleepier, the better
