Supriya Lele knows what the girls want to wear. British sensibilities are honored of course—hosiery and boots are essential for the weather, after all—but from the knees up, she’s impenetrable. Rain, cold, gusty gales are no match when a woman is in the mood, and this collection taps into that very moment when it’s just her against the world. Forget judgment; men, who?

Better yet: she’s a heroine, the main character of her own movie. A primary palette anchors soft shapes with attitude; draped fabrics enhance every movement, slices of the hip on display add angularity to balance thigh-high slits. Even so, there’s tenderness in how (and where) Supriya Lele showcases skin. Lele is a woman who knows, one who creates through and with the female gaze in mind.
