The Top Shelf of a Beauty Minimalist

25 February 2013 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

“Make it simple, but significant,” Don Draper once said.

… And such is the philosophy behind all I do (Mr. Draper just kindly summed up 20 years worth of habits in five words). It applies to my work ethic and attitude towards life; my eating habits and how I dress; my shopping direction and beauty philosophy.

Less is more, always, and I will forever champion that natural beauty is the best kind of beauty. Should some dolling up be required of me, however, I have a designated drawer with all sorts of goodies (I’m a minimalist with tendencies of a makeup junkie). A simple, no-makeup makeup kind of look that does wonders in beautifying—all the while still looking like me.

Simple, but significant:

fotd - makeup du jour

FACE: A swipe of NARS Madly blusher across the cheekbones for some color/glow/contouring action. It’s a beautiful tawny, shell pink that achieves that ever-coveted, Victoria’s Secret-y glow.

EYES: A hint of metallic shimmer in the inner corners using Bobbi Brown’s shadow in Navajo 15 (now discontinued, but Gold Dust is similar) brightens while tracing the waterline with Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Nude opens the eyes. It’s a modern take on classic sixties makeup trick that does absolute wonders; finish off with a few swipes of L’Oreal’s Voluminous Waterproof (the best mascara I’ve tried) et voila! Doe eyes.

LIPS: Badger Cocoa Butter lip balm only. Delicious and organic.

I’ve noticed that about you! Your purchases are never overboard, but when you do buy something (makeup or clothes), it’s always a class investment.

Really? That’s such a great compliment! Of course I veer off and make silly purchases from time to time, but I try (; xo!

I need a new eyeliner. I’ll have to try out the rimmel one. Love the price. Also my favorite mascara is the same one. It’s the best one for full lashes.
