Twilight

2 December 2008 • Kimberly • 58 Comments

Just the word itself can instigate a lively conversation to come; girls’ voices getting high pitched from excitement in gushing how much they love this book. And then, inevitably, Edward Cullen comes into the discussion and the orgasmic screams, stifled under sighs and longing and lusting and a thousand nights’ worth of dreams of being bitten by the sexy vampire is well, unavoidable. It’s just a bit hilarious to watch.

I had, finally, succumbed. I had seen the book, a couple years before its rise to fame in an ad in some magazine. I actually did find it interesting upon reading the synopsis, but seemed to have put it in the back of my mind. And it did come back to haunt me, in the form of these die-hard Cullen fans (I do love Jacob too). I finished the first book, and am in the midst of the second. The plot and storyline was lovely as they all said. The writing, I must admit, was a bit immature. But nonetheless, that aside, makes me wish I could meet a boy like Edward Cullen. Or Jacob Black.

I loved InStyle’s spread of the Twilight cast, so immaculately dressed, channeling a dark, rocker look with perfect imperfection. Imperfect as in that slightly boho, fresh-faced, tousled hair. And perfect in the sense that the suits, dresses, and coats were so fabulous. And as a reference to Twilight, the cast was dressed in black colors – one of my favorite colors. After all, black is a symbol of all things mysterious, all the while sophisticated, classic, and simplistic. The leathers are so beautiful: the coats and those over the knee boots are so incredibly chic.

Kristen Stewart in a Temperley gown

This is perhaps one of my favorite shots of Kristen Stewart – ever. I absolutely love  her – and not for Twilight (as of now: I haven’t yet watched the movie!). Ever since her role in “Cutlass”, a movie short directed by Kate Hudson (I do advise you all to watch it – I absolutely love it), I’ve had a girl crush on Kristen. I love how versatile and easy-chic her look is; from dirty blonde to deep brunettes, from tomboyish to pretty, she can play it all. She’s not the most glamorous; and even the starlet admits to that. But her look is enviable. Kristen Stewart hardly looks like just another of those teen-ish stars walking about in Prada this and LV that – she has this seamless way of wearing designer stuff, non-premiere designer, or both in such a way that makes her look like an iindividual.

Speaking of leather.

leather-jacket1

A Twilight worthy look, in my opinion. I absolutely love the cropped leather jacket (add that to my wish list); it’s a more feminine version of the original, the biker-esque look toned down just a bit. It’s also quite versatile: the more casual look to the right is perfect for a screening of Twilight with friends, a day out, what have you. Zippered or lapels left open, the little jacket would look great with a loose fitted tee. With that said, it’s time to bring out the flat boots to channel an authentic rock-chic look; I absolutely love these over the knees, patent leather boots – it adds a touch of vintage to the relaxed look. Throw on a beanie, grab a bag, and you’re ready to go! The dressier version is one of my favorite outfits of all time. Perfect for a girl’s night out, a lovely date, or a more formal occasion, I love the juxtaposition of the feminine with the masculine. The sleeveless, sweetheart dress in a bright blue is adorable on its own. Showing a lot of skin can be sexy, but to balance out the neckline and short hemline, adding the leather jacket creates the perfect balance in between sweet and wild, and sexy and demure. Add a pair of sky-high heels to elongate your legs, grab a clutch, and it’s time to enjoy the night. Or shall I say, twilight?

xoxo,

La C.

i loved the books. yes, the writing was silly, but it was such a fun absorbing read!

enjoy the rest of the books and don’t get your hopes up on the movie. it wasn’t very good, but had some redeeming parts!

Sigh. I love that Night-to-Day ensemble you put up. I would love to own a leather jacket – but its impossible to wear it in Singapore, and even maintain it because of the humidity! I’d hate to see a gorgeous turn into flakes all because of climate. :/

I agree with you on Twilight. To be honest, only the first and last books were good. But that’s just my opinion of course. 🙂 The writing in general is a bit too..I can’t quite describe it. But I do love the banter, the conversations and the dynamics between characters. Bella annoys the shit out of me sometimes because of her first person narrative. Overall though, there is a subtle wit behind some parts of the book which I do enjoy. 🙂

Argh. Talk about longest-comment-ever! *hides face*

I am unsure about the movie… I have not seen it and do not plan on doing so. I have an irrational dislike of things which cause 13 year old girls go crazy. I am probably mostly just judgemental. I do like the spread, however.

This is probably the most insignificant thing in your post but it caught my eye… that knitted beanie! SIGH! I used to have one a lot like that but I’ve misplaced it and now I can’t walk around channeling ‘hobo’ anymore :(. That day outfit is sooooo exactly what I would wear! And the night one, you know I’m all for the masculine-feminine mix!

I must say, the image and styling of the Twilight cast is the best thing they have going for them. I’ve heard such bad reviews of the movie, I’m afraid to watch it myself. But they sure do look hawt. Edward Cullen take me please!!
