Uncharacteristically Hot

I’m still not sure how I feel about this outfit. One too many elements feel off: too many lines in opposition, yet not enough differentiation in texture and silhouette to make mismatched details work. But it was too hot to keep iterating, and lately, life feels too short to rethink proportions. Still, it looked a little better in real life, likely because a Manolo kitten heel fixes everything. In hindsight, however, a bigger or more structured pant might’ve been the better option. At the time, this lightweight pistachio pair—which I’d painstakingly stalked and finally had shipped from Korea—was all I wanted to wear. Cargos may have fallen out of favor this year, but I’ve loved this style since junior high. And these in particular feel unique, with little ties and cinched bows that give an otherwise utilitarian design a softer, feminine flair.

It’s not to say I’m immune to trends (I genuinely find joy in experimenting with them, within the confines of my personal style codes), but I do wonder if I’m also feeling a bit iffy about this look because cargos feel so distinctively 2022.

Nevertheless: It’s about the bag! Murakami madness continues to reign the pre-loved market, and as a longtime bag collector, this 2006 satin kiss-lock Louis Vuitton is one of the most special pieces in my closet. Most vintage Murakamis (from the first release in the early aughts, under Marc Jacobs) have resurfaced on secondhand platforms as the Speedy 30, Judy, and Noè bucket bag. The Aumônière is harder to come by. I’m not sure if this was a more limited style, or if the people who bought this bag in-boutique love it so much that they’re still holding onto it over two decades later—but I do have immense pride knowing that one of the few that exist right now, for purchase, is on the Into Archive.

It’s like the greatest cosign.
