Wearing: Nike x Marine Serre 2019 Women’s World Cup Jersey & Catsuit Set + Whiting & Davis Vintage Gold Mesh Clutch + Gold Hoop Earrings (similar)
Just a few days ago, I’d rambled on about how I tend toward the commercial (as in: simple, feminine, digestible by the general public), but I do have a quirkier side that can’t resist the strange. I’m in the midst of purging my closet and found this limited-edition set—a collaboration with one of my once-favorite labels, Marine Serre, and Nike, in celebration of the 2019 Women’s World Cup. I loved it then, and still do now; I just never had the audacity to wear it out. At the time, I think I intended to separate the pieces. The ballet pink catsuit, sprinkled with Marine Serre’s iconic crescent moon motif and the Nike swoosh, would’ve been perfect for my days moonlighting as a dance instructor. I’d wear the jersey dress solo, likely with a classic Chanel flap and stiletto at a sports bar. (I don’t go to sports bars, and I rarely participate in sporting activities.)
So humor me as the world celebrates (or mourns) the World Cup Finals—and I hope that in the midst of post-match madness, we remember, and look out for, the women in our lives. According to UNESCO and UN Women, police reports of domestic violence rise to 33% during major sporting events. (This stat only accounts for the instances reported.) The National Network to End Domestic Violence seems to be a great resource that compiles legal updates and guidance. For free, confidential help 24/7, you can always call, text, or live chat this national hotline.
