With Love, With Jéan

Finally visited With Jéan’s first L.A. pop-up. I had the time and was in the neighborhood—a second meeting on Sunset ended up being cancelled—so naturally, I took advantage of a quiet afternoon in West Hollywood.

I’ve been a fan for a few years now, which speaks volumes. Few contemporary, mid-range brands hold my attention after a fourth or fifth season (such is the nature of fashion and trend cycles, unfortunately), but With Jéan has remained a steadfast label I love for dabbling in girly, of-the-moment pieces. There’s always something that catches my eye every other collection—the latest being the famed Sharni halter and handkerchief skirt. (It’s as flattering, and even more versatile, in person. In fact, I’m contemplating getting the set in white, too.) But this current season is particularly delightful—especially if you’re in search of flirty little numbers to sip, shop, and saunter in this summer.

Much restraint was exercised, I’m happy to report. I left with the Alyssa (a charcoal knit halter with a turtleneck, one of my favorite silhouettes) and the Sienna top in both black and white. What can I say? When I love something, I buy it in multiples—and this particular design struck a cord of nostalgia. Flutter sleeves, a draped cowl neck, nineties buttons, and a cinched waist are almost too darling relative to what I gravitate towards now—and yet, I was enamored. The sweetness reminded me of the mid-aughts, of the things I wore to lectures and internships in college, thinking I was finally all grown up.
