Hello, 2009

1 January 2009 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

Here’s to the first post of the year of the glorious 2009! I’m truly excited for what this new year can bring; as cliche as it may sound, change can be felt in the air. Perhaps that was said with a bit of a dramatic air; nonetheless, a new year always bring some sort of change, for better or for worse. But do keep in mind that everything happens for a reason!

First things first. Establish a mantra, one that can be easily remembered and has the ability to motivate you. New Year resolutions are just as great, but sometimes we forget that long list as the year progresses (guilty as charged). So brainstorm a few encouraging phrases, type it up in some pretty font, and set it as your wallpaper on your computer/laptop! It serves not only as a daily reminder, but also doubles as a lovely background. Here’s mine; I have it printed on glossy paper, one taped on my closet door across from my leopard-print covered bed, and one on the inside cover of my new journal for 2009!

A new year doesn’t necessarily call for a new you, per say. Just you, perhaps a bit revamped or remixed. So while I write this I have this urge – need, rather – to go shopping immediately! I have a new set of inspiration, with styles I’ve been itching to try for a few months now. Guaranteed, the load of Christmas money from relatives will come in handy.

On my current “Need” (not my want list!) are these items:

black opaque tights  black lace tights & any sort of textured ones!  new jeans!  black leather boots, about 3 inches high? (EDIT: just bought a pair of franco sarto’s today!)  suede ankle booties, black (again)  something sequined!  leather jacket  vintage faux fur coat (oh so fabulous)  dresses

… I’m in dire need of a good shopping excursion.

Currently pining…

nasty-gal-vintage

This gorgeous vintage sequined bandage dress, from Nasty Gal. I seriously want it, but the mother wouldn’t be too happy about the price tag. And being a student is of no help either. There’s only one in stock, and it’s in my size. Oh, cruel world, why must everything be so expensive? I can already imagine it integrating into my wardrobe… with black tights and pumps for a party, with boots for an outing… Oh the possibilities. Woe is me. The Jungle print dress, also from Nasty Gal, is so fabulous. The length, print, and cut is perfect. A cheaper price tag, yes, but I’m thinking that I’ll allot that money for the Miu Miu Vitello Lux/Chanel 2.55 fund.

black-lace

I haven’t been able to find the perfect lace top or dress yet; the ones I’ve seen are either not approved by the mother or too granny-like. I absolutely love the look of them; classic, sophisticated, and a bit alluring. I absolutely love this little number paired with skinnies and boots; a perfect balance of sexy femininity meets masculine utility.

shoes

Um, perfection in a shoe. I wish I knew the designer? But even if I did, that would require, once again, quite a lot of moolah. I shall  find one like it! I think I’d love to own a pair of Minnetonka ankle length moccasins – in black.

zipper-skirt

I really need a black skirt with an exposed zipper, preferably. Perhaps not leather, since I have a bit of a behind (and that might make me look more hootchie than Lily-Donaldson-cool). American Apparel, anyone?

lou-lou-loves-you-hairpiece

I’ve been searching for the perfect hairpiece/headband that channels Blair Waldorf. They’re either too obnoxious or just blah, the ones I’ve seen so far. I do love this particular piece by Lou Lou Loves You. It’s on the larger side and would probably not be practical for everyday wear, but nonetheless, would be quite satisfying to simply own! Time to DIY, darlings! On a side note, I do love this model’s makeup: the peachy lips, slightly glossed, and eyes au naturel (with the help of falsies, I think?) – so sweet and innocent!

And so I’ve reached the conclusion that I love black too much.

This post is complete proof of my obsession.

Happy 2009!

La C.

P.S.: I told you darlings – my personal style is like that of a chameleon! It changes based on my mood & the music I’ve been listening to. This week: the Veronicas (so fashionable, especially in their music video for “Untouched” – gothic Lolita is the vibe, with sequins, lots of black, matte pink lips, plastic Chanel cuffs, etc.). My inspiration:

Oh, I adore faux fur coats – they’re absolutely fantastic. I’ve been on the hunt for one for ages, but haven’t found “the one.”

I also love ankle boots – the ones you picked were fantastic!!

And I too have been hunting high and low for fantastic headbands/head pieces a la Blair Waldorf/Kenley Collins from Project Runway, but am not quite sure what I can/cannot pull off yet!

Happy New Year – and keep up with your lovely blog! xo

Oh, don’t we all love black, dearie? But, I have to say…jaimewearsblack does the perfect photography of all, blogworld-wise.
Hmmm, honey, I’m eyeing that Gucci handbag in black & white, as well. And by the way, I do hope that someday my daughter will say something that goes like this,

“This is when I thank God for not giving me a sister. I’d rather not fight for the best piece or vintage Gucci bag. And while I’m expressing gratitude, thank you, mother, for not being selfish about your clothing and bags. ”

    Aren’t you the sweetest?
    Mwah! =)

I will make myself a mantra right after this! I’ll try to make it as fabolous as yours. There is so many amazing things in this post I don’t know where to start. The two dresses are gorgous! I’m a little afraid of leopard print though, even though it looks oh so very cool! The headband is wonder-wonderful! Very Blair indeed. I would love to have one, but as you said, perhaps a bit smaller so I could use it every day ^^
