Maintenant | No. 007: Pretty in Pink

31 March 2010 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

Just some pretty things I spotted this week. And some thoughts:

  • Pining over the Mulberry Alexa. It’s been months now since I’ve eyed that piece of perfection and lusted over it. Now if I use the money allotted for my Macbook Pro fund for this darling…
  • I’ve always loved dance. But for the past few months it’s become my life.  Or obsession. It’s all perspective. Taking various open classes at a local studio with Geo (!!), learning to break, working on choreography for a dance crew competition, and swooning over boys who can dance [well]. I kinda love it.
  • This is the first time in years I’ve had room to breathe. No dance team, no musical, no nothing. Just me and the world, with a whole lot of time in my wallet to spend. It’s nice the first day, but after that I become restless. I need something to do, 24/7, or I begin to lose my mind… I’m getting a vision. It’s getting clearer. Looks like I’ll be a workaholic, Starbucks with extra shots in hand, in the near future.
  • Head over heels for Belle Chantelle. Such an adorable and beautiful girl with such a pretty blog! Seriously though, watch this—she needs to make more vlogs! (:
  • My uniform this spring break: bandage mini (black, of course) + semi-sheer, 3/4 length petite blouse tucked in + black heels + wide belt cinching the waist. All day, every day. As much as I love bandage skirts, I can never seem to find one (within my budget) that actually fits correctly: either they fit at the waist, and not at the hips, or vice versa. I love my few that go on rotation, but they all gap at my waist. One of those elastic, cinching belts comes in handy (!), but I’d love to be able to find a skirt that fits perfectly. Any suggestions, s’il vous plaît?
  • Finished reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Brilliant, haunting. I’ll definitely be reading A Thousand Splendid Suns.
  • Finally watched Avatar. I’ll recycle a word, because none other can describe this movie but brilliant. Without a doubt. It’s one of those films that makes you think—something most movies (TV shows, books, etc.) lack these days. I posted this on my tumblr immediately following the rolling end credits: “What is war, but an indirect fight between the government heads, conducted by them from the comfort & safety of their plush leather chairs. The ones who die are the men and women—kids, even—who follow blindly. What are they fighting for? The freedom? Democracy? Or for the egos of political leaders? You tell me.” I’d like to call myself a pacifist, but I’m not. I mean, I took Taekwondo back in the day; I’d be a hypocrite if I claimed otherwise.
  • Om namah shivaya. I want to get a tattoo of this. It is exactly the phrase I’ve believed in my whole life, and have been looking for.
  • Embracing spring with pastel colored nail lacquers; my favorites are from Essie’s “The Art of Spring”, spring 2010 collection. Review soon? Perhaps, if I’m up to it.

J’écris toujours trop, non?

♥

bisous,

La C.

The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are both absolutely incredible. They both tell very different stories, but are each so heartbreaking and intriguing in their own way. Definitely read A Thousand Splendid Suns; I guarantee you’ll love it!

i read a thousand splendid suns for school and it is one of my favorites. It’s amazing how well he captures a women’s perspective.

and bandage skirts, I found on resale but it was from arden b. it is very stretchy so it fits the curves perfectly.

@ missanonymous: Thank you! I actually quite like writing these, I feel like it makes me more human than a fashion robot (or “Mode-bot,” from Ugly Betty!). Lol! As much as I like fashion, it’s not my main passion. There are other things I care deeply enough, and I believe using fashion as an outlet for that is the best way to reach the majority. Through the superficial we can introduce the otherworldly, no?

@Madison: Arden B was actually the first place I turned to for bodycon skirts; I tried every single one in the store and all of them gap at my waist (or else they don’t fit the derriere!). Thank you though!
