Bag Whore: Mulberry Alexa

2 April 2010 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

I never believed in love [during the hormone-dominated reign of the teenage era]. Nor was I ever one of those Nicholas-Spark-loving romantics. I’m only seventeen (though nearing eighteen in less than a week!); thus I doubt my ability to let down my guard and give unconditionally to another. I am American, mind you. And on top of that, I have been raised in the generation epitomized by selfishness and materialism. Double the selfishness!

[You love my cynicism. Don’t even bother denying it.]

But I did fall in love. I did. Wholly, selflessly, in love. The kind—in sappy chick flicks—where you get the butterflies and your heart palpitates right out of your chest. The kind where your breath shortens and you feel warm and tingly and all sorts of sensations simultaneously. Behold.

The oversized Mulberry Alexa. One thousand, two hundred fifty dollars of pure perfection. Never mind money. Things of that nature are arbitrary when it comes to true love.

It seems unusual, doesn’t it, that I would lust over such a bag? My personal style is perhaps best described as “coquettishly feminine, classic, and sophisticated” (I had to ask a friend for adjectives since I am absolutely horrid at characterizing myself). One would then deduce, rightfully so, that I would prefer something along the nature of the Chanel 2.55 variety in its sleek simplicity.

Quite the opposite. I have a particular affinity for either slouchy, blasé or the utiliarian types with clean lines. Mind you, I do love the ladylike clutches, but I never quite have a such strong an attraction as I do to those like the Miu Miu Vitello Lux and Proenza Schouler PS1. My motto, as you chéries are well aware of by now, is juxtaposition and balance. Too much femininity would be excessive; thus I prefer to offset it with something a bit more androgynous.

Hellooo, Mulberry Alexa.

Structured, utilitarian. Big enough to fit all my necessities and more; easily thrown around the shoulder or held in the crook of the arm. I adore the color of the leather, the hardware, the buckle and braided handle detailing. Je suis en amours, sans aucun doute. I can’t stop thinking about you, dearest Mulberry Alexa, mon petit chou. You’ve been lingering on my mind all day, all night. C’est terrible, but I love it. It’s the kind of love that will last forever—’tis a classic romance.

Won’t you be mine?

♥

bisous,

La C.

P.S.: Alexa Chung has the best bags.

while other bloggers are just re-posting pictures seen EVERYWHERE in the blogosphere directly from tfs or each other, you’re doing something completely different.

    and you do it well.

this is all general. you take a picture of something seemingly generic – like this it bag everyone loves – and you turn it into the center of a storyline. an actual, literary piece. you’ve got creativity and a knack for writing. you make fashion interesting, that’s what. i’m tired of seeing stupid pictures. seriously? like knightcat & lefashion & lecheap. YOU’RE ALL THE SAME.

you bring individuality, and i like it. since the beginnning actually.

    okay i had to rant/rave, sorry! 😉

I love that bag too. It is perfect… ButI don’t think I will ever be able to use that much money on a bag, I don’t blame those who do though! If I ever bought it, I would surely wear it every day for the rest of my life, now that is good value for money 🙂

I don’t always agree with her fashion choices, but she does have a very nice collection of bags! The Alexa is perfect for that hipster schoolgirl vibe. Ah, a good choice to be in love with!

i’m mad about that bag! I’ve been looking for an old style brown leather bag like that – reminds me of school bags from the fifties or something.

Also ever since i cut my hair short i’ve been loving the androgynous look. It’s so true that a hair style can give you a different feel and attitude altogether.
