Questions & Answers, Part II

Your lovely questions, my answers. Enjoy!

The Personal.

Where do you live?

On the East Coast of the U.S. In New Jersey – not the most interesting of states, but close enough to New York City that I can manage!

Why did you start a blog?

Partially because I’m too lazy to retype my answer, read it here, my FAQ section, if you’d like.

Current style icons/muses:

Ready yourselves, ladies and gents, for a massive list! Carine Roitfeld, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Natalie Portman, Miranda Kerr, Frida Giannini, Melanie Huynh, Camilla Belle, Miroslava Duma, Magdalena F., Natasha Poly, Audrey Hepburn, Lily Donaldson, Maryna Linchuck, Giovanna Battaglia, Sophia Coppola, Rachel Zoe. And the bloggers behind Swank Heights, Fashion Squad, & It’s Her Factory. Phew.

Now that we know your age =), are you actively involved in school activities?

I’d like to say I’m pretty involved in my high school. I’m on my school’s varsity dance team (I do sport my letterman jacket occasionally); we perform at every football and basketball game, as well as at other various school performances. Which does, of course, take up my life (literally) in the fall and winter. Come winter/spring, I’m in my school’s spring musical. There’s a few other clubs here and there that I’m in, but the aforementioned two are the ones I’m most involved in. Timewise, at least.

Least favorite subject in school:

Math. Pre-calculus Honors is, dare I say, synonymous to well, I won’t say.

What do you do on weekends?

Saturdays are consumed by a day’s worth of dance. And Sundays are reserved for the sole purpose of completing homework. I have a lovely schedule, don’t I?

Most embarrassing moment:

Ahh. The embarrassing moment. I actually don’t think I have one, since anything that any other normal high school girl would consider embarrassing hardly affects me at all. I am trying quite hard to recall any such potentially blush-worthy event, but none come to mind.

Morning Routine:

Shut the alarm clock off, sleep an extra five minutes. Then hurry to brush my teeth and whatnot, straighten the hair, apply some gloss, get dressed, run down, and eat a bowl of oatmeal. I love oatmeal, actually. Plain!

Evening Routine:

Shower, brush my teeth. Then I sit on my bed, winding down by either reading a book (currently re-reading Pride & Prejudice) or flipping through magazines. Come time I feel a yawn, I shut the lights and play the iPod. And hope that insomnia won’t plague me and I can actually fall asleep.

How you pick out what to wear:

It’s typically based upon my mood, or, on what I had just listened to. Whether it be girly, sophisticated, coquettish, boho, etc.

7 Passions:

Life, friends, family, dancing, music, writing, traveling.

Celebrity Crush(es):

James Franco, Orlando Bloom (Miranda is a lucky girl!), Ed Westwick, & Gaspard Ulliel.

Do you want to be a dancer when you grow up?

Nah – it’s simply just a passion/hobby of mine.

Are you a paid intern for Dujour? Or do you get free samples/goodies? (because you totally should!)

Haha, neither, actually! I wish I got samples; I mean I do write up batches of articles for the site! ;]

Gaspard Ulliel, will you marry me?

Gaspard Ulliel

The Favorites.

Designer: Hold on tight, ladies and gentlemen. I simply cannot just name one! Lanvin (Alber Elbaz), Gucci (Frida Giannini), Giambattista Valli, Stella McCartney, Acne, Balmain, Michael Kors, YSL, Zac Posen, Donna Karan, Marchesa, Narciso.

Book, & why: Uncle Tom’s Cabin, by far. So incredibly well-written, powerful, and influential. And it’s the only book I’ve read that made me cry.

Color: Dark purples. Something about the color brings about images of that femme fatale; its close to black, which gives it an air of sophistication and mystery, whilst having some sort of color that allows for femininity.

Food: I love food too much to condense the list! I shall save you all the trouble by simply saying chocolate.

Musicians/Bands/Singers: Yet another longgggggg list. Alicia Keys, Ashanti, Black Violin, Boyz II Men, Britney Spears (of course), Chris Brown, Christina Aguilera, Ciara, Day 26, Elliott Yamin, Frank Sinatra,  John Legend, Josh Groban, Karina Pasian, Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey, Mario, Michael Buble, Ne-Yo, Pitbull, The Pussycat Dolls (yes, I do love them), Ryan Leslie, The-Dream, Three Graces, Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Christmas songs are amazing), Usher, The Veronicas. I do listen to more though, but sometimes I only like a few singles from the artists.

Movie: The Devil Wears Prada, 50 First Dates, August Rush, Step Up 2 (choreography-wise, it was good!), The Gods Are Crazy (both I & II). There’s several others I cannot recall at this point in time. Oops.

Blog(s): Jak & Jil Blog, Garance Dore, Knighttcat, Le Fashion, Fashion Squad, Alize Morand, Swank Heights, Hand it Over, Childhood Flames, Le Flassh, Le Cheap C’est Chic.

Magazine: Vogue Paris – ’tis a pity a single issue costs so much here. ELLE U.S., of course! And Harper’s Bazaar, on occasion.

Piece of Clothing: Any sort of sweater with cutouts or a top with butterfly sleeves.

Place ever visited: Paris & NYC. Of course.

Absolute favorite place to shop? Even if you have only been there once! Harrod’s. The whole environment is perfect. Food, designer goods, a chocolate bar. HEAVEN.

If I were to be Erin Wasson for the day...

If I were to be Erin Wasson for the day…

Miscellaneous:

What’s always in your bag?

My iPod, cell phone, post-it notes, black pens, wallet, and my cosmetic bag with: mirror, lip glosses, lip gloss brush, chapstick.

What’s on your playlist?

“Make it Work” (Ne-Yo); “Closer” (Ne-Yo); “Boom Boom Pow” (The Black Eyed Peas); “Jai Ho” (A. R. Rahmen ft. PCD); “I Hate This Part” (PCD); Some songs from “Wicked”; Leona Lewis

What do you always order from Starbucks?

I always get something different! But I do love their Cinnamon Dolce hot coffee, Vanilla Bean or Strawberries & Creme Frappucinos.

What would you wear on a day when you don’t want to look classy, chic, or poised, and instead want to go all Erin Wasson grunge-chic? [hehe just a fun question, because you have such refined style.]

I love this question. A pair of those grunge-y boots (like Doc Martens, but not really), denim cutoffs that are slightly torn, leather jacket, and a shredded tee-shirt with a black lace bra peeking through. And a straw fedora.

Since you love to dance, and were recently in a show, what is your favorite musical?

Wicked and the Lion King are by far one of my favorites! I saw Wicked in London last year – the most incredible thing ever. I could only dream of starring in that production!

How long did it take for you to finish your birthday cake?

A quarter of it is still in my refrigerator, actually!

What three things would you bring with you on a desert island?

My iPod, a pen, and a blank notebook.

Who is #1 on your mobile phone speed dial?

My house!

What is your motto in life?

Carpe Diem. Seize the day.

Do you see age as a curse, something that should be feared even though with age does come those great things mentioned?

Of course not! Then again, I may be biased, seeming that I am only seventeen. From my perspective I see the twenties as the perfect time to establish yourself and become independent. The late thirties to forties are your prime: settled down with a husband perhaps and well-established in your career. When you know what you want exactly and can easily get it. And the years after that are dedicated to relaxing. I think aging is beautiful. But do come back to me when I’m forty. Hopefully my perspective will not have altered!

If you had to wear sneakers (the athletic kind) what would you wear?

I actually do have a weakness for Nike dunks, even though I don’t any. Perhaps it’s because of my love for hip-hop. But these babies from Colette are on my wishlist!

nike-dunk-high-new-5

If you knew all the celebrities, who would you want to be friends with?

The Roitfelds, the designers, & the models of the world.

Are UGGs ever permissible?

Of course! Perhaps not the chicest, but come time when your feet are tired, sore, blistered and bleeding from Louboutins, UGGs can be your best friend. Not to mention: they’re more practical in the wintertime or in horrible weather conditions that could prove fatal with slips and falls.

When can we see your face?

Be patient, darlings. Maybe one day. =)

That was a massive post.

Bisous,

La C.

P.S.: Thank you to Little Miss F Henny for giving me an award!

Internet hasn’t been working at home lately though I managed to read ur blog and now that I can write to u I’d like to say Happy belated bday! ur age really surprised me, not because u are so mature because I understand that sometimes age has nothing to do with that but because I’m ur age (well from the ’91 actually) and I find quite difficult to find someone with such a beautiful style, when it comes to fashion or writing. Whish I was half as good as u! At least in my language. So my question is (and I hope it isnt too late to be answered) how did u manage to be such a good writer and give good fashion advice? DE u have any routine when it comes to writing or whatsoever?

Miriam: I’ve missed you & your blog so!! Glad to see you’re back <3 And that’s so cool that we’re the same age, kind of =]

And no question is too late to be answered! Yours is actually a bit difficult to answer. I’m not really sure, to be honest. I just always liked writing since I was little, I guess. Perhaps it had to do with the fact that I used to read a lot (now I have no time, sadly!). I also love browsing through blogs and flipping through magazines, if that helps. I think it’s because I know what looks good on me and what doesn’t and then I go from there!

Sorry my answer’s so pitiful! haha <3

And you don’t get anything in return? Either your boss has something big in store for you or, dare I say, she should give you something before you get a bigger stint & leave! *winks*

Massive posts = Massive comment spam from Hui

This was so fun to read. This goes to show your mini-celebrity status on here because I read through every line of every answer you wrote as though I was poring through some intriguing celebrity interview in Harper’s or something. (:

So here are my random responses to all your answers as well signs of blogtwinhood:

    – NATASHA POLY IS LOVE. ♥

-Our love for Lanvin is pretty much a known fact. However, I have to say I was delighted to see that you’re a Gucci fan of Frida’s time. I absolutely went mad for her Gucci collections. In particular the one that had red/purple/florals with a hint of gladiator, that very soon took the world by strom. I felt she kept the Gucci look very streamline, fierce and pristine, all without losing the tremendous sex appeal that the house was famous for.

    – Dark purples rock! I just recently got a dark purple RVCA blouse thingy. It’s got such an interesting shape.Maybe I will take some shots of it and you can tell me what you think!

    – A million nods of approval to Starbucks’ Strawberries&Creme frapp. It’s seasonal here in Singapore! So it only comes like, a few times a year for limited periods of time. ): It is soooooo delicious. Totally my Starbucks guilty pleasure. (:

Okay I think this is way too long and I’m getting embarrassed. So I shall stop here. (: I am feeling better and I hope you are too. We will get through our rough weeks together, somehow, even though we are oceans apart!

    Blogtwin <3,

You picked out my 2 favourite plays from London. I only ended up seeing 4 plays in that entire year, but those two were definitely the best… I should’ve made more of an effort to see Les Mis. I heard it’s one of the best–a classic.

Awesome post!! =) I really really enjoy reading your posts. They’re always so well written and well thought out.

Heh I’m totally into NeYo now. All those songs are really great for dancing to. I’m quite liking Trey Songz now too (what sort of dance are you into btw?). Aww I do like what you say about aging and I do agree with you about the different stages… though there are times when I get very fearful about aging because it just seems a whole lot less fun when you get older — more people to think about than just yourself haha. ;p

I love how you interspersed such beautiful photos with this post! I’m checking Giselle out. He’s such a hottie. And Erin Wasson… gorgeous.

Whaaooou! That was a great post, very interesting to know a little more about you! It feels like you’re so far but less anonymous, and anyway, who cares about distance when you’ve got such close taste! 😉 Thank you sooo much for mentioning my blog, you’re a angel! x
