Spotted: Alessandra Torresani

14 December 2008 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

Before I get started on my usual rantings and what not, I received an award from the lovely Cheyenne of Stilettoed Praline. Thank you so much, darling!! It made my day :-).

I’m completely in love with that corset. The most feminine piece, whose construction bears the story of decades – even centuries – of history: history of the woman, the clothing, the culture, and the life of years past. The piece that, over the course of time, started as an undergarment and became a top suitable for outerwear. It is the representation of the woman’s past and present, and a symbol of sex. The leather lace-ups become icons of the goth or of dominatrixes; the lighter, girlier versions such as the one above, is a more playful than the first.

I adore this outfit: pin-ups girls gone innocent, I say. The floral corset is playful yet a bit sophisticated; an oxymoron in itself: it’s shape is, of course, quite revealing, yet its print is prim and proper. When paired with these high waisted, white denim pants, it gives the corset a casual feel. And those sunglasses; the pink is such a fun twist to the ordinary black, brown, or white frame. It’s Lolita grownup, upgrading from the eccentric heart shaped rims to wayfarers. This outfit can be worn for day or night with a change of shoes: a pair of white sandals for day, and a pair of white, pointed-toe pumps for the evening. Cover up with a long cardigan to offset the short hemlines of the top, roll up the sleeves just a bit, throw your hair into a messy chignon, & grab a pink clutch. Just the mere girlishness of the outfit makes me squeal with delight – it’s time to go shopping!

black, white, & pink.

Black & white, of course, is the most sophisticated & classic color combination of all time; no doubt making it one of my favourites. And when paired together to make a cutsey but a bit naughty outfit like the one above, I am all for it! I love the simplicity of the tank & skirt ensemble: it’s a basic & easy base to work off of. The next step, of course, is to personalize the look! Adding a long statement necklace can instantly make the outfit more versatile: a gaudy piece is more glamorous, a simple one keeps the overall statement classic. Shoes are also an important part of defining the look: platform mary janes over thigh high socks are reminiscent of Gossip Girl with a touch of demure sexiness.

I don’t even think I can express how happy this bubblegum pink Hello Kitty gumball machine makes me. Okay, so perhaps my obsession with Hello Kitty brings out the ten year old girl within me, but I can justify my love for the adorable character – what’s not to love about her? She’s kitschy, she’s cute, & pink. And so every time I browse through Tarina Tarantino’s Pink Head collection, I pine, I lust, and wallow in self-pity (… well, perhaps not so much the last).

I think I would love to wear that Betsey Johnson-esque dress on my birthday. Just merely for the sake of sentimentality and feeling ridiculously girly and like a cupcake, all simultaneously. The hairpiece does remind me of Zac Posen 2007 (this is just a guesstimation), only instead of black pom-poms with red detailing, these Minnie Mouse’s ears have innocent with white fluffs and pink bows. The dress itself is quite delectable with layers of icing-like white & pink ruffles and a pouf of a tutu that would make any ballerina jealous. Accented with hot pink bows here and there, I dare say that this dress epitomizes girly-ness at its best.

P.S.: I think I may add this to my wishlist – I absolutely love Tarina’s Gothic Lolita Pink Head Multi-bead Necklace! A bit out of my budget, yes, so I’ll just look at it, from the comfort of my home. Buy it here for yours truly ;].

I love clothes that resemble sweets… but pale pink makes me look like a corpse, so I tend to pick the brighter pinks :p I don’t wear pink a lot, but the black&white outfit is definitely inspiring! Now, WHY did I leave my black, high-waisted skirt at my flat, where I won’t see it for… a month. Oh, cruel world!

I’m not usually a colour person and stick a lot to monochrome comfort, with lots of gray in between.

However, there is something about pink – crazy magenta to the sweetest bubblegum – that is so addictive and so alluring. Anything in pink, I somehow feel compelled to have. I won’t even know how to wear it or use it, but I know I need to have it. I think I have pink in my black blood & pink valves in my black heart…lol.

That floral corset is to-die-for by the way. Due to my um, incredibly boyish body, lovely stuff like corsets are things I can’t really wear. :/ But looking at them is delish enough as it is. That print, that perfect short length with itsybitsy midriff exposure and the curves that match with the arc of her pose – sexy, sweet, super and so-needs-to-be-in-my-closet (even if I can’t wear it)!

Great post, as per usual ♥
